Applying for funding

SAS-P considers funding applications by invitation only. If your organisation is invited to apply, you will receive instructions on the application process.

Disclaimer: An invitation to submit a funding application is not a commitment or intention to support your organisation. All decisions taken by the board of SAS-P related to awarding or rejecting applications are non-negotiable and are not open for appeal. SAS-P may seek confidential advice from third parties regarding applications, applicants, or grantee partners.

Application criteria

To be considered for funding, you must meet the following key criteria, among others:

  • Funding importance: SAS-P funding should be critical for the proof, incubation, growth, or scaling of the solution.
  • Clarity of costs and (S)ROI: The costs and Return on Investment must be clear.
  • Evidence-based impact: Applicants must demonstrate the initiative’s added value with robust, independent data.
  • Measurable outcomes: The initiative should have measurable impact metrics.
  • Innovative solutions: The project must offer innovative solutions to pressing poverty-related issues.
  • Sustainable improvements: The initiative should durably enhance the lives of individuals living on less than $2 a day.
  • Focus areas: Initiatives should address problems in health, education, sustainable livelihoods, and/or dignified homes.
  • Geographical focus: Projects must operate in Sub-Saharan Africa, with priority given to initiatives in Burundi, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mali, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Togo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
  • Clear strategy: Organisations must have a well-defined strategy with clearly described and measurable objectives and milestones.
  • Proximity matters: The organisation must have a strong presence, expertise, experience, and knowledge in the relevant geographical and thematic context of the initiative.
